Background & Information

Background

The history of Bridge Church goes back to the 1st World War days when Dinnington began to expand with the sinking of the pit. The church has undergone a number of changes over the years. Although we have a long and varied history, we have made our biggest developments over the last decade. We would describe ourselves as an emerging church, with a big heart for God and our community and a vision to be a ‘beacon of hope’ in our immediate locality and ‘east of the M1’.

The church is a registered charity (Charity No. 1174129) and a registered company (Company Registration No. 10615097), and is affiliated with the Assemblies of God in Great Britain. We are very network minded and believe strongly in the unity of the body of Christ, and so we keep in close relationship with local churches and our national network.

We are a very mission-minded church, and regularly support a number of mission organisations who work right across the globe. ‘Mission Mondays’ on our church WhatsApp group regularly keep our members up-to-date with the mission organisations that we support. Over the years we have made a number of trips overseas to offer practical support.

Over the last few years we have made a number of upgrades and developments to our ministry site. These have included: a complete renovation of the worship hall; a new toilet block; a brand new children’s ministry space; new car parking and the renovation of two adjoining houses to create staff accommodation and a church office. We have a vision to increase our site and facilities as we anticipate growth over the next few years. This could include a relocation in future years.

Over the course of 2020 and the Coronavirus pandemic we have developed our online presence and continued to meet online via YouTube, Facebook and Zoom. May 2021 saw us launch our brand new children’s ministry ‘Bridge Kids’. We have an exciting programme of teaching using an interactive and dynamic multimedia presentation.

Local Information

Bridge Church is located right in the heart of the community of Dinnington, Sheffield. We are surrounded by housing estates, and are close to the local shopping centre and schools. Dinnington and the surrounding villages have a long history as coal mining communities. Within a few miles radius there are many similar towns and villages, and the area is quite densely populated.

Despite its challenges, the area has attracted investment from housing developers, the Local Authority and other community and charitable organisations. Over the next few years there will be hundreds of new houses built within a few minutes of the church. These new housing estates will attract more professionals and working individuals to the area, and will no doubt bring further development of schools, shops, Doctors and other infrastructure.

We see our church as being perfectly located to help the people and neighbourhoods of Dinnington and surrounding communities. We aim to be a ‘beacon of hope, east of the M1’.
